RealmsFrom: Noel Del More Date: Saturday, September 4, 1999
Time: 10:35:55 amShawn,
You may have noted in my previous message the following which was
extracted from our OG welcome letter
'Your Username (Login) : <Login><Class>'
We use radius realms for authentication, so that a users login name
might be something like 'noel@inr.net' or 'noel@datt.net', or in the
case of some our corporate customers who use our service for their
traveling sales and technical personell, 'noel@mycompany.com'
At the moment, I do not believe that OG supports Realms so to get
around this we are using the <Class> field to track the Realm a user
belongs to. However, their is no way, to my knowledge, to export this
to the OG generated radius file.
Another problem is some customers, primarily web hosting customers, do
not have dial-up access but their is no way to exclude them from the
being exported to the radius file unless (guessing here) you use
'empty login' (which we don't use).
And a final problem is that usage information cannot be imported since
the detail file will indicate the 'noel@inr.net' used X hours, but
does not match up with a username.
But as you can see, the use of Realms allows the ISP to either expand
service through leased POP's or offering "branded" services to other
ISP's or to Corporate Customers.
My suggestion is to add support for Realms to OG, e.g.
<Login><Realm>, which the radius export function can use the generate
a login name if the customer is part of a realm.
Secondly, to add a checkbox to indicate whether or not this user
should be included or excluded from the OG generated radius file.
And finally, add support to OG Usage Import functions to support
Realms.
Regards
Noel
