I really don't think was an accidental auto-responder configuration problem.

The e-mail address looked like a personal e-mail address. In fact it
corresponds to a person who is listed in the whois database. Most personal
autoresponders would say something like, "I'm out of the office" or
something to that effect.

The message was clearly of a commercial nature, and I think the spamming
was intentional. If you look at the first line of the message you find a
disclaimer that "this is an autoresponder... we're on the same mailing
list." That's intended to pull the wool over your eyes and is like saying
"This is not spam" or "This is never sent unsolicited" or "This is an
opt-in e-mail"... when the reality is that the message is none of those.

Now if it really was an autoresponder... even a commercial one... why would
the possibility that it would be directed to a mailing list ever enter the
mind of the person writing the autoresponder? It wouldn't. And therefore
there would not be a need to offer the "we're on the same mailing list"
disclaimer up front.

No my friends... this was spam and it was intentionally sent to a mailing
list or lists and just because it says it isn't spam doesn't make it so.

No snowflake thinks that they are responsible for the avalanche.
