A positive note about 1.1.2 running smoothly.....
I've been running it on both Primary and Secondary since the day it was released. The Primary is dedicated and I've only restarted it once in 4 weeks, and that was because I moved it. The Secondary has been restarted many times, but because of changes to other services running on the same system.
Hardware/software:

Primary = 50,000 hits a day, Work Group Server 80, built-in 10T,40mb RAM sys 7.6.1, OT 1.1.2, Timbuktu Pro always on, Sassafras Keyaccess. QuickDNS RAM allocation is 2048, and the only other application I run on it is QuickDNS Admin via Timbuktu.

Secondary= Q840AV, built-in 10T, sys 7.6.1, OT 1.1.2, Timbuktu Pro always on, Sassafras Keyaccess, and LOTs of other user type extensions, network software, etc.

QuickDNS Pro does it's job FAST and RUNS Forever!

If I have a PTR record for 206.55.18.12 in my 18.55.206.in-addr.arpa. file
on QDNSPro, shouldn't a mailhost be able to find that it is mapped to
Fast.Look.net? But maybe that's not the 'problem' I have a client that says
he can't send email addressed to @206.55.18.12 (see quote below) This IP is
assigned to a ListSTAR SMTP server. His mail goes through fine if he sends
to @ListServe.com (DNS records for that domain set MX to Fast.Look.net)
Could this be a DNS set up issue?

My client says:
>I did a lookup on 206.55.18.12 and get a no match from InterNIC
>Our Mail system attempts to verify the DNS registry
>before it will forward email and it could not do it.

Sure, if your QuickDNS Pro server is listed at the InterNIC as autoritative
for the 18.55.206.in-addr.arpa domain, has that domain delegated to it by
the server authoritative for the 55.206.in-addr.arpa domain, and/or
provides data as a primary for a secondary server that's authoritative for
the 18.55.206.in-addr.arpa domain.

rogue:tmp {672} nslookup -type=NS 18.55.206.in-addr.arpa
Server: rogue.river.com
Address: 206.168.172.14

Non-authoritative answer:
18.55.206.in-addr.arpa nameserver = NS2.MNSINC.COM
18.55.206.in-addr.arpa nameserver = Name.Look.net
18.55.206.in-addr.arpa nameserver = ns.MNSINC.COM
18.55.206.in-addr.arpa nameserver = NS1.MNSINC.COM

Authoritative answers can be found from:
NS2.MNSINC.COM internet address = 206.55.3.11
Name.Look.net internet address = 206.55.18.14
NS1.MNSINC.COM internet address = 199.164.210.12

Looks like you're OK there if the server running QuickDNS Pro is
name.look.net, and the other servers all pull zone transfers from it.

Your client doesn't say what kind of 'lookup' he did. I suspect he's
confusing whois database lookups with DNS lookups, given that bit about the
InterNIC.

If not, his setup has a problem, as I don't have any difficulty resolving
both 206.55.18.12 <-> fast.look.net using nslookup on my openbsd systems,
or DNS Lookup on my Macs.

And of course he can't send mail addressed to @206.55.18.12. Try looking
up an A record for an IP address sometime, and you'll likely have the same
problem as he is (it's nonsense, unless your lookup software flips the
lookup to help you out of your mistake :-). To send mail directly to an IP
address, he needs use the following instead: @[206.55.18.12].

Is it possible to setup a ListServe using LetterRip (on a Mac) with
QuickDNS Pro if I already have a registered domain with InterNic? My
authoritative server host is panix.com

Any advice is appreciated.

We have tried to get the DNS and Electronic mail on our system to work,
but we are having problems. I am able to send a message from a domain
<reeftank.com>, but I am not able to send a message to the domain or
access it. The return message when I try to send mail to the domain is:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<webman@reeftank.com>

----- Transcript of session follows -----
550 <webman@reeftank.com>... Host unknown (Name server: reeftank.com: no
data known)

When I try to access mail from the domain, the message I get is:

Execution of Schedule "Connect Now" at Fri, Jun 20, 1997 8:00:12 AM
Connecting To Internet using Account "webman@reeftank.com"
Checking for mail
** Could not resolve the domain name "reeftank.com" because this
domain name does not exist.

QuickDNS Pro and EIMS 1.1.2 are both on the same machine. QuickDNS Pro is
the primary name server for the domain name <reeftank>. Any suggestions
or examples would be much appreciated. The interesting thing is that the
DNS appears to be working for the HomeDoor redirect extension so that
when one types in http://www.reeftank.com, one is redirected to
http//www2.reeftank.com/reeftank/.

Sincerely,

Charles Lai

Has anyone been experiencing problems after upgrade QuickDNS from 1.1.1 to
1.1.2? Since upgrading, we've been having problems with both of our
servers freezing. No system error or dialog, just a frozen mouse.

The strange thing is that we're getting similar freezes on a variety of
machines. We've gotten the freeze with an SE/30 running System 7.1/MacTCP
2.0.6, a Centris 610 with 7.6.1/OT 1.1.2, and an 8500 with 7.6.1 (and 7.6)
with OT 1.1.2.

Our primary server is running on the 610 or 8500 and we have a backup
running on the SE/30.

I'd like to go back to 1.1.1, but I stupidly deleted it after installing
1.1.2. So I'd be obliged if someone can point me to a 1.1.1 archive out
there somewhere.

yes a few times so far I have come back to find the mac locked up for NO
apparent reason, but is random and I have no idea what is causing it.
