bogus "No MX or A records..." errorsFrom: Tom Weishaar Date: Saturday, July 19, 1997
Time: 10:09:00 pmI think I've finally figured out how to get rid of the bogus "No MX or A
records for this name" errors in EIMS I reported a few days ago (all
mail addressed to worldnet.att.net has been returning this error on my
server for some time).
First of all, I set up a situation where I was sure EIMS could actually
get the records for worldnet.att.net. I could get them from QuickDNS Pro
on other machines on our network. Thus the problem had to be in EIMS.
Going back and rereading the excellent documentation at
http://www.pism.com/chapt04/ by Carl Steadman and Jason Snell, I noticed
that the default for DNR Cache Entries (Server/Preferences) was 64. I
had set mine to 1 weeks ago, thinking this would cause EIMS to give up
on caching and just ask QuickDNS Pro for the domain data every time. Big
mistake! When I set this back to 64, the bogus errors stopped!
There's something going on here you might want to look into, Glenn. (Is
the Steadman/Snell documentation on the purpose of "DNR Cache Entries"
correct?)
