My DNS Background is zip. What do you mean go into TCP/IP and set it for
QUICK DNS. Well, I guess tomorrow I open TCP/IP and see what is there.
As far as reading <http://www.pism.com> I think I have read it about 10
times now and find it to be as clear as mud. It's like you people want
to look like you explain this stuff but don't really want to give out
any information. Thats why I went to Macs from IBM type machines over 13
years ago. Anyway, after running the QUICK DNS my searches for sites
went from taking about 3 minutes to find an address to 10 or 15 seconds.
I tried using the steps in the administrator to set up my DNS and kept
getting DNS error. I tried to open the sample and put my info in place
of the sample info and save it. It saved it with the name I renamed it
but in the Primary DNS windows it kept the name mysamplecompany.com and
never worked. After deleting everything for the fifth time, I used the
administrator to start a DNS, then used the add record buttons and the
delete buttons to make the record look exactly like the sample, but with
my info and saved it again. I very carefully checked the reverse entry
and fixed the mistakes it had made in creating this record (It had put
some strange not even close DNS IP numbers in place of my secondary DNS
IP numbers. Then I saved that. I tried to find my DNS (no luck) and then
was called away for about 10 other problems taking about 8 hours. When I
came back to my computer (different from the computer running the server
and running Quick DNS) I logged onto the net and bingo my page came up
with no problem. I still don't know what I did, but guess it was right.
I hope to try again with another domain, but will give it a couple of
days. Meanwhile if you know of any other place that explains all this
domain working in terms for someone who know zip let me know.
