Reverse DNS questionsFrom: Andrew Murray Date: Thursday, July 30, 1998
Time: 6:23:00 pmWe are using QuickDNS Pro version 2.0 and are having problems with
getting reverse
DNS to work.
Our domain name is centricsystems.ca and we have set up the forward DNS
info without
any problem. I used the domain assistant to create the reverse domain
file for our
domain and it created a primary domain called 96.236.207.in-addr.arpa.
with entries
for each ip address we are using in the forward domain.
Our address space is 207.236.96.160 - 207.236.96.191
However, machines outside our network cannot do reverse DNS lookups on
any of our
machines. Normal forward lookups work fine. Our service provider says
the following:
" We are secondary for both your forward and reverse file but our server
is
not able to get the zone transfer for the reverse. I verified in your
name
server and you are not answering for the reverse which would be
160/27.96.236.207.in-addr.arpa, but are answering for the full class c
which is 96.236.207.in-addr.arpa I believe this is where the problem is.
If you fix the reverse file the problem should clear up. "
My question is: how do I set up QuickDNS Pro to properly answer for our
address
space? I've tried manually changing the name of the reverse domain to
160/27.96.236.207.in-addr.arpa, but this didn't work either.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew
