Problems resolving hostname from PC and Router...

Hi,

I have QuickDNS Pro running for a number of domains (approximately 100).
Secondary for most all of those domains is a Linux box run by my upstream
provider.

Today, a client reported problems resolving a domain name from the PCs on
their network which we provide connectivity for. The Macs on their network
though had no problem with the domain name.

Upon checking the IP/DNS configuration on the PCs, it appears as if they
are configured the same way as the Macs... our QuickDNS server being
primary, my upstream provider being secondary. They have approximately 35
PCs and 15 Macs... the problem is consistent across all PCs but works on
all Macs. Sooo, I logged into their router (CISCO 1604) and tried pinging
the host... it was not resolvable using our primary DNS or our upstream
secondary DNS but it was resolvable using a dns from somewhere else out on
the net.

It is possible that our upstream provider was having problems with their
dns (can't confirm) but why would a Mac be able to resolve the address but
not PCs? The PCs are all running WIN95.

I suspect a problem with our upstream providers dns (our secondary) as in
the past when their dns goes down, our dns tends to really bog down or even
crash. But I haven't been able to confirm they had a problem today and the
Macs seem to have no problem with the host name. Does anyone know why this
might be happening and how I can avoid same? Do I change the dns config of
the QuickDNS server to point elsewhere?

Multiple questions here... I thank anyone for any assitance you might be
able to provide.

Cheers!

Barry
