Switching IP''s for my DNS hostsFrom: John Readwin Date: Saturday, April 3, 1999
Time: 6:03:00 pmI'm sure this is something others have gone through, so I am hoping to get
some advice.
I need to switch the IP numbers associated with my hosts. ( I am getting a
new service for from my ISP and need to give up my existing 3 IP's for new
set of 8 ip's, I am hoping they allow me to keep them all until I complete
the transferfor my DNS hosts)
I know how to make the request to internic, but my questions/concerns are
the following
Do all the domains looking up to my DNS hosts automatically get redirected
to the new address of the hosts names after I submit the host changes to
internic?? ( I am sure this is true , but just want to clarify it)
What is the best way to avoid downtime of my domains while internic is
doing the changes?. I realize that it may take a couple of days for the
changes to get replicated through the root servers
Should I set up a mirror DNS Host ? one with the new IP, and one with the
old ip?? will this cause conflicts/problems?
Is there a way I can have my primary DNS host setup to listen for both IP's??
Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.
