For this to work, both programs need to be configurable to use only a
specific address. To the best of my knowledge, this is the case with
neither LetterRip nor EIMS.

As I understand it, SoftRouter actually routes incoming requests to the
default address of the machine. Therefore, even if an application were set
up to differentiate between addresses, it would see everything as coming
from the one address.
I agree that the user interface for setting up Apple's secondary address
scheme leaves something to be desired. However, it is far simpler than the
interface for the same task under Linux, for example.
