Secondary DNS filenames (why?)From: Steve Linford Date: Wednesday, June 9, 1999
Time: 8:11:00 amI run 2 copies of QDNS, one for primary and one for secondary DNS. For
every domain I create a primary record for I then move across to the
secondary DNS machine and add a secondary record. After a while of doing
this I have a question I ask myself every time, guess it's time to ask the
list:
Why does every secondary DNS record need a manually input file name? I
guess I don't understand why QDNS doesn't just make up its own filename
using the domain just entered.
Also in my case, the master IP address for all my secondary records is
always the same primary server, yet I need to re-enter the IP each time.
And finally, I need to remember to create the secondary records every time
I create a primary record. What I think is missing is the ability to tell
QDNS to just automatically act as secondary to a particular primary server,
i.e: "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your master, always copy every domain
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has". Wouldn't that be godsend (or is it just me)?
