Here is a tidbit I posted to the WebStar talk list which outlines the
steps to setting up a secondary QuickDNS server:

<snip>

You can do this for free if you own QuickDNS as the license allows for a
primary and secondary.. To set up the secondary simply do the following:

1. place the secondary server on another machine on a completely
different subnet and a completely different network connection to a
completely different backbone supplier so as to get full redundancy. (It
is really pointless to have your secondary DNS on the same
LAN/subnet/network as the primary.)

2. You will need to make a NS record in your current zone files (on the
primary) and point it to the secondary server. See below:

Primary domain zone file.

domain.com. NS ns1.domain.com
domain.com. NS ns2.domain.com (this is the secondary server)
domain.com. MX 10 mail.domain.com
domain.com. MX 20 mail2.domain.com
ns1.domain.com. A xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
domain.com. A xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
www.domain.com. CNAME domain.com.
ftp.domain.com. CNAME domain.com.

On the secondary server start up QDNS. Then open the QDNS admin app.
Next go to the "Window" file menu and select "Secondary Data" Then
create a new record as follows:

Domain Name File Name IP Address 1 (IP of Primary)
domain.com domain xxx.xxx.xx.xxx

Now restart the secondary server and it will query the primary for this
information.

To test simply set you TCP/IP control panel to look at ONLY the secondary
server for information about this domain.

Some other important stuff to do is to make sure you advise your upscale
provider of what you are doing, especially if they are providing your
current secondary DNS. Also, make sure to update/modify your domain name
info at Network Delusions AKA InterNIC with the secondary name server.

You might want to get on the Quick DNS mail list as this is off topic.

hope this helps.
