virtual hosting and secondary server

Hi Eric,

Question about virtual hosting and using a backup server with load balancing
with QDNS responder.

I have two identical web servers, one of which gets the main web traffic and
the other of which is used for database stuff and as backup for server 1. I
have QDNS set up to route the traffic from the first machine to the second in
the event the first goes down. It's been working fine.

I also had been using HomeDoor for many years for my virtual hosting. I just
upgraded Webstar on server 1 from 2.1.1 to W*4 , and have set it up with
direct IP multihoming (hooray, no more www2.domain.com/domain/ !). Server 2
will be upgraded in the near future.

Except... how do I make it work on the second server? Those secondary IPs are
live on server 1, so I certainly can't put them on server 2 also. Do I do
server 1 with IP routing and server 2 (and any later additions) with hostname
routing? How do I set up QDNS to handle this best? Do I need to set up load
balancing for EACH of the secondary IPs?

I figure I'll leave homedoor set up for use with server 2 should server1 go
down, until I get that machine upgraded too. (I have the IPs to spare for
now...).

Thanks

BC
