Setup Help - NewbieFrom: Dennis J. Bonsall, Jr. Date: Friday, November 5, 1999
Time: 7:41:00 pmI recently purchased a copy of QuickDNS, and am having some setup
problems. I was using MacDNS previously, and after importing my zone
files, the results were not as expected. Perhaps I am misunderstanding
the results, or I had something setup wrong in MacDNS, or am doing
something wrong now. In any case, here is what is going on...
1.) My primary DNS server is still operating under MacDNS, until I get
QuickDNS Setup. But, I am running QuickDNS on my secondary DNS server,
but I am running it as a primary server as well. So, it should not be
referencing the other server for information.
2.) I currently host around 30 domain names on my DNS server. My DNS
servers are to be named 'dns1.webbuilders.com' and
'dns2.webbuilders.com'. However, in each domain file that is loaded,
the NS server is listed as 'webbuilders.top.net'. This is the IP
lookup name for our main webserver, as provided by our ISP. But, in our
domain file for webbuilders.com, we have the lookup name for that IP as
'webbuilders.com'. When I changed the value for NS entry in the domain
file for webbuilders.com to 'dns1.webbuilders.com', the change was
accepted, as I anticipated. However, when I changed this value in the
other domain files, they were changed to (for example)
'dns1.webbuilders.com.customerdomain.com'. How do I get the record to
simply know that the DNS server should be 'dns1.webbuilders.com'.
3.) I get similar results when I attempt to change the information in
the Domain Information window, within not only the "Primary" field, but
also in the "Hostmaster" field (which I am trying to change to
webmaster@webbuilders.com).
Does anyone have any suggestion to solve my problem?
Thanks,
Dennis Bonsall
