Maybe if someone could >explain how to do this from the get go that would help. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as that. It all depends on how your ISP chooses to delegate your block of addresses. Current best practices are described in RFC 2317: <http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2317.html>. The method described in this RFC is flexible. It describes a second method in passing, but recommends against it.
