On our Linux dial in servers, RedHat 5.0, we use portslave, a getty replacement. It authenticates via a radius server, which can be the same machine. The radius authentication software is available for download at Livingston.com, in a precompiled binary format. You can also use Radius for NT, which I am currently trying, or Cistron Radius deamon. These methods will give you a proper RADIUS usage file, and are free.
