In nslookup's interactive mode, 'set [no]recurse' turns recursion on or off.

Similar to nslookup, dig has a command line option, +[no]recurse, to specify
whether or not to send a recursive query.

I know this is a bit off-topic, but the original message in this thread
mentioned nslookup, so it seems relevant to discuss using nslookup and its
cousin dig for these kinds of queries.
