MX records questionFrom: Paul S Vail Date: Thursday, April 27, 2000
Time: 10:44:14 pmfolks,
I could not find an archive of the talk list, so will pose this question
here.
I host a domain for http, but the client wants to maintain mail services
through another IP with a different hosting service. What special
adjustments should be made to point queries or an address record to the
other IP address for mail to find its way? Or, will the zone updates
simply find my machine and the other machine automatically?
simple table is:
client.com. NS server.me.com.
client.com. NS server2.me.com.
www.client.com. A 111.22.333.44
client.com. A 111.22.333.44
ftp.client.com. A 111.22.333.44
Do I need:
client.com. NS server.me.com.
client.com. NS server2.me.com.
client.com. MX 10 mail.client.com.
www.client.com. A 111.22.333.44
client.com A 111.22.333.44
ftp.client.com. A 111.22.333.44
mail.client.com. A 555.66.777.88 (the other IP handling the
mail serving)
I'm sure there is reason to have the MX records and A record to redirect
to the other IP (555.66.7.88), but I don't fully grok what exactly needs
to be entered.
I'm on digest so please CC me directly. Thx.
