Nevertheless, the primary factors in the performance of a DNS server are:
o Bandwidth
o RAM speed
o Processor speed
roughly in that order.

Possibly. How much traffic is your DNS server getting, and how much
of it is for recursive resolution (where it has to query other
servers to find the answer)?
As I understand it (not being on the engineering staff), RAM speed is
more important than processor speed for serving your own domains - a
G3 upgrade will come with a faster L2 cache, which will help
somewhat. But processor speed can become important under heavy loads
of recursive queries (as we've seen before on this list).
