coincidence? From: Nick Quinn Date: Thursday, June 15, 2000
Time: 4:05:25 pmhi,
Amongst others, we have a 5400 with 72MB running QuickDNS, MacRadius =
and SIMS (being supported by MacOS 9.0, Timbuktu and MacCoach) for over =
2 years. Having 72MB, I allowed QuickDNS (2.2.1) 10MB to cache its =
stuff, and everything runs hunkydory (translates to OK) most of the =
time except for:
- the occasional freeze when Timbuktu shows the menu bar clock seconds =
stopped for a minute or so and then off it goes again, and
- every two weeks or so MacCoach restarts the system due to a nothing =
happening for 5 minutes (ie a long freeze)
I "Timbuktu" to the server 2 or 3 times a day to administer email, dns =
and radius and I noticed a couple of days ago that the QuickDNS' free =
memory was getting down to well under 1MB and thought to myself "oh, =
its due for a restart". And sure enough, the 36 hours later, that is =
what happened.
Has anyone else had this coincidence?
Have I given QuickDNS too much rope and memory management is getting =
knotted when free memory gets to zero?
Should I simply restart every week at a preset time, just to be safe?
Upgrade MacOS to 9.0.4?
Any other prayers or incantations?
Or should I tiptoe out of the office this weekend thanking my lucky =
stars for such a peacefull two weeks?
TIA,
Nick Quinn
