I think your first assumption is correct. Chris will correct me if I'm wrong.
I have the same "non-problem" with DNS Expert and SIMS. Since the machine
I run DNS expert is in the client list, it will reply for DNS expert. I
removed my machine's single IP from the client IP list, re-ran DNS expert,
and the "non-problem" went away.
I've sence removed that check from the list of things that DNS Expert
performs. I like to see a long list of green check marks when I run it.
I'm fairly confident that if my SMTP ever gets opened up to relay (after an
upgrade for example) A spammer will find it, and I'll be alerted about it
soon enough anyway..... :-( If that ever happens, I'd deserve every flame
e-mail I'd get.
