As long as the secondary name server (smtp2) doesn't know anything about the
zone, connectivity to the domain will be unreliable from both inside and
outside of your network.

They'd both respond with information from their respective copies of the zone
file. It's functionally no different than one being a primary (master) and the
other a secondary (slave) for the zone. It would, however, mean that whenever
you make changes to the domain you'd need to be careful that the primary data
file gets updated on both servers. The advantage of a secondary (slave) server
is that it picks up changes automagically through zone file transfers.

I'm still not getting any response from smtp2 for ssjlaw.com., but it does
return pings. Are you sure that the QDNS Pro Server application is running on
it? (I know that seems like a silly question, but can't hurt to triple-check
these things.) If you send smpt2 a non-recursive query (using DNS Expert or
some other query tool) for ssjlaw.com. or www.ssjlaw.com. what do you get?
