It uses a hash table. The lookup and recursive resolution algorithms
therefore don't care. The expiry algorithm, on the other hand, will
slow down a bit.
How fast is your machine? There was a problem with a system based on
a 603/75 with, as I recall, 40-50 MB of RAM allocated and a large
pool of modem users hitting it. In that case, the extra RAM was a
problem.
If your server is faster than that (it almost has to be), then the
benefits of a larger cache will outweigh the slightly slower
execution time for the expiry algorithm.
