Re: OpenSRS: Before you answer....

Before you answer the OpenSRS interface question... some food for
thought!

Good luck on this one Shawn, I've installed the opensrs interface
and it required a static IP and all kinds of hoops to jump
through for authentication just to get it to run with THEIR web
interface...

For those of us who have to put the dom reg in PENDING status and
look at it to decide which dns servers to put it on (you only get
one default choice in opensrs...) - an interface to them replacing
their supplied web interface with something more comprehensive
would be a welcome addition! Don't you want to rewrite their system?
Aww, c'mon! Pweeese?

Here's all you would need to do:

1) Contact them and get permission / make arrangements to access
their databases from OG. Currently all interface is done via
their online interface. (THAT I KNOW OF... somebody update me
if you do it another way!!!)

2) Figure out how to pass the OG customer's static IP from OG
to OpenSrs so it meets their auth requirements.

3) Make a couple of new fields (OS username / pw) and hold them
in the OG database somewhere so they can verify who they are
and can update their dns info (see item 4)

4) Provide a way in OG web interface to update/manage the dom
reg info (contacts, servers) so that our customers have one
nice consistent place to manage all aspects of their account
(replaces the http://manage.opensrs.net pages)

If you started today.. it would only take you a couple of months tops!

See one of my current interfaces: http://www.DomainsOnSpecial.com

I wish you success!

Carol

P.S. We bought OptiGold for my new job at SandStream.com and we are
watching this list for tips :) Keep up the good work y'all!

P.P.S. DREW: Do I at least get one pizza for this info? :)
