Performa 475?From: Seth Long Date: Tuesday, November 21, 2000
Time: 5:03:15 pmI'm soliciting comments about using Quick DNS Pro to serve 21 domains from a
Performa 475.
The 6100 I was intending to use is suffering from a life-threatening power
supply problem and is no longer a good choice for a DNS server. That leaves
with the option of either buying a refurbed 6100 (not a bad solution, but
it's not free, either) or using the old 475 I salvaged from a newspaper
we're closing next week.
I tweaked the 475 today with a stripped-down OS 8.1, ANA 3.6, and QDNS Pro.
It has 20MB of RAM and seems to be running fine.
The question is: can it handle the load and remain speedy in the process? Or
should I just give up and switch to another box?
TIA.
