Not what you want to hear, but my unvarnished opinion is that the
6400/6500's are completely shit.
I wouldn't waste a whit of time trying to make one not crash. It is a
losing battle. You may in fact have a fixable problem, but you could well
have a hardware problem, and the bottom line is that it's not worth <any>
amount of time to make one of those dogs work. Buy a 6100 for under a
hundred bucks and use the 6500 for something not important.
