Re: QDNS still crashingFrom: Jerry Harrigan Date: Thursday, December 28, 2000
Time: 2:56:14 pmWe installed IPNMonitor in order to packet sniff our QDNS box
http://www.sustworks.com/site/prod_ipmonitor.html and found that a customer
had something running that was causing it to crash: it would leave a stream
open, then another, then another. until our box blew up!
I am yet to hear from him what exact program he upgraded/changed on his
server that is doing this, but have an access list in to block him from my
dns server at the router level and my crashing stopped.
My guess is that there is something in another commonly used dns package
that brings QDNS to its knees. Knowing this guy, I doubt it is anything NT
and is most likely bind8 under linux that he is running. I believe that if
the stream wait period were shortened under QDNS so that it threw out or
close down old requests sooner, it would at least temporarily solve the
problem.
