Everything but the load balance record will work fine with the
mismatched servers.

There are a few technical issues that prevent the successful use of
both versions for one load balance record. So if your 3.0 server went
down, your load balance record would become unavailable.

However, you could configure the 2.x server as a second primary
instead of as a secondary server. Then you could recreate the load
balance record on it, and set up the whole 2.x load balance system
(including the WebSTAR plug-in).
