Is it my imagination -- punishment accepted if this in in the docs --
v3 log file....

that the log file in v3 no longer logs lots of stuff and that the
level of log reporting is not setable.
In v2 I could set the log level to debug and see all kind of
interesting things in the log. but with v3 those interesting things
are missing and i can't find a way to get them back.
