You could turn on the God-Level Found Set Delete under employee security.
Then you could search for customers with a termination date less than
1/1/2001:

<1/1/2001

Or any date for that matter. Then you can click the Delete button on the
Customer Info screen. Be careful with it though, it will delete all your
found customers.

The pro is you recoup the licenses. The con is that you loose all history
of the account (invoices, payments, etc.) so it's as if they were never a
customer.
