You said earlier,

How long is "a while"?

The reason I asked to see the values from the Domain Information
dialog is, the load balance record is essentially a separate zone. It
gets its SOA record values from the parent zone. If the Expire were
set too low, and if your primary server were unresponsive to refresh
checks from the secondary servers for longer than that Expire value,
then the secondary servers would stop serving the load balance record
and would start rejecting the LPM packets.

If "a while" is over a week, and if your secondary servers can't get
a successful refresh check for at least a week, that would cause the
symptom you describe.

If that's not it, then the only thing I can think of is that the web
servers started sending incorrect LPM packets. With the problem not
currently occurring, and without being able to directly examine the
data, it's very hard to be sure.
