I looked at their site. While they talk about Timbuktu 2000 all over
the place, the version of Timbuktu for Mac OS available from the 2000
product page appears to be 5.2.4.

That's an interesting approach. OK, here's what I can say:
All that has been officially announced as a time frame is "soon after
the release of Mac OS X". Given that Mac OS X is out now, you can
expect 3.5 to be released pretty soon.
I'm fairly certain there will be a public beta beforehand, so
hopefully you'll get some warning that way.
