Depends on if you are hanging the automated tasks as client to FileMaker Pro Server or not. If it's just a client, killing the app won't affect the data files, but if you want it to be the server, it would. Someone did send me an email that had three services running on a single machine... FileMaker Pro Server (a service anyway), with the runtime hung as a client running automated tasks as a service, and then FileMaker Pro 4.0 as a service/client running the web interface. I've never acctually tried it, but it should work in theory.
