No, it should never crash. In theory.

In reality, debug-level logging creates a lot of log output, and so
will tend to magnify any problems in operating system or QuickDNS
Server code. We've tried our best to eliminate problems in our own
code and work around problems in the operating system, but nobody's
perfect.

How many lines were entered into the log between setting it to debug
and the crash?

Of course, it is possible that the crash had nothing to do with the
logging level.

That's perfectly normal. It reflects a query from your server to
h.root-servers.net regarding the root zone, which has no labels in
its name (and is written as ".").

Your server will send quite a few similar queries the first time
after a restart that it gets a query about a name it doesn't know.
