Full Class C delegationFrom: David Reynolds Date: Friday, June 1, 2001
Time: 12:06:30 pmWell, I've finally gotten a little used to classless subnet delegation, but
now we have a full class C and I'm confused again. I've spent the last few
days going through the archives and DNS and Bind with no luck. Basically
our provider is supposed to delegate the class c to us so we can do our own
DNS.
Our new ip block is 216.132.253.0-255. I've tried querying from the root
down to see how the delegation looks and set up ours based on that, but I
seem to be getting stuck at auth1.ns.eni.net. There is a PTR record for
ns1.metaforimaging.com, but no NS or CNAME records. If they are delegating
to ns1.metaforimaging.com at 216.132.253.200 and ns2.metaforimaging.com at
216.132.253.201, shouln't there be an NS record for each under authority?
This is where Im confused, I hope someone can help.
By the way, I set up:
0.253.132.216.in-addr.arpa. NS ns1.metaforimaging.com.
0.253.132.216.in-addr.arpa. NS auth1.ns.eni.net.
0.253.132.216.in-addr.arpa. NS auth2.ns.eni.net.
0.253.132.216.in-addr.arpa. NS auth3.ns.eni.net.
in a file named: 0.253.132.216.in-addr.arpa.
based on what I found. I need to know if that is even close or what changes
I need to make, but most importantly why? I'm trying my best to understand
and I'll be buried in DNS and Bind until I get a response.
Thanks,
David
