servers?</title></head><body>
<div>Your setup below is essentially correct. For example, you could
have:</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;
</x-tab><x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>MX<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </x-tab>10&nbsp;
mail.shortclip.com.</div>
<div>shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;
</x-tab><x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>MX<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </x-tab>20&nbsp;
relay.shortclip.com.</div>
<div>staff.shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>MX<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </x-tab>10&nbsp;
staff.shortclip.com.</div>
<div>staff.shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>MX<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </x-tab>20&nbsp;
relay.shortclip.com.</div>
<div>mail.shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>A<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>192.168.0.1</div>
<div>relay.shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>A<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>192.168.0.2</div>
<div>staff.shortclip.com.<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>A<x-tab>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</x-tab>192.168.0.3</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>This way, mail for &lt;user@shortclip.com&gt; is routed to
mail.shortclip.com. Mail for &lt;user@staff.shortclip.com&gt; is
routed to staff.shortclip.com. If either of those servers is down,
mail destined for that server is rerouted to relay.shortclip.com, your
backup mail server for both domains.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Here's how an MX record works (ignoring the priority numbers):
The name of the record (the part on the left) is what shows up in the
email address. The name in the data section (the part on the right) is
the name of the server to which that message gets routed.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>You can have as many MX records with the same priority number as
you want, all in the same zone file, without causing any confusion of
mail delivery, so long as the names of the records are
different.</div>
