You'll need to tell us your server operating system before we can
answer that definitively.

Most operating systems have some way to set services to start at boot
time, other than manually editing init.d or rc.d files. For example,
in Red Hat, you'd use the /sbin/setup utility.

Aside from that, to start named immediately, you can use ndc, which
is usually located in /usr/sbin/ndc. However, the command channel is
renamed by QuickDNS, so if you have already installed QuickDNS,
you'll need to use a command like the following:

/usr/sbin/ndc -c /var/run/qdns <command>

where <command> is any of the ndc commands, such as start, stop, or restart.
