DSL and DNSFrom: Alan Millar Date: Sunday, June 24, 2001
Time: 1:50:19 amI have enhanced DSL service from Pacbell. This gives me 5 static IP
addresses. I'm trying to run a webserver off one of the IP addresses.
I had a T1 years ago with Pacbell and had no trouble setting up
QuickDNS. I'm having a few problems with this DSL. Here is the domain
name, the query info WhatRoute gives on the IP address, and my DNS
record as it is set up in QuickDNS. My questions are at the end.
alanmillar.com
64.163.218.141
Start: 6/24/01 1:15:13 AM
;; Query: 64.163.218.141 ,type = ANY , class = ANY
;; ANSWERS:
141.218.163.64.in-addr.arpa. 2895 IN PTR
adsl-64-163-218-141.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net.
;; AUTHORITY RECORDS:
218.163.64.in-addr.arpa. 91328 IN NS ns1.pbi.net.
218.163.64.in-addr.arpa. 91328 IN NS ns2.pbi.net.
;; ADDITIONAL RECORDS:
ns1.pbi.net. 91175 IN A 206.13.28.11
ns2.pbi.net. 132644 IN A 206.13.29.11
* DNR Query complete 6/24/01 1:15:28 AM *
Here is the domain info as entered in QuickDNS
Name TTL Type Parameter 1 Parameter 2
alanmillar.com. NS ns1.alanmillar.com
alanmillar.com. NS ns2.pbi.net.alanmillar.com.
alanmillar.com. MX 10 alanmillar.com
ns2.pbi.net. A 206.13.29.11
ns1.alanmillar.com. A 64.163.218.141
www.alanmillar.com. CNAME alanmillar.com
mail.alanmillar.com. CNAME alanmillar.com
Question 0: is this QuickDNS record correct?
Question 1 : is "ns2.pbi.net.alanmillar.com." correct? QuickDNS keeps
adding the alanmillar.com to the end of ns2.pacbell.net.
Question 2: is the pointer record correct per the query? i.e. is
Pacbell providing the right info to direct to this machine?
Question 3: can anyone ping this IP address? (I can't ping it and I'm
pinging from one of the IP addresses!)
Question 4: Why doesn't QuickDNS create a TTL (time to live) entry?
Question 5: Why doesn't QuickDNS let you EXPORT a domain text file?
