Simple DNS Questions and hopefully you have a simple answer...

Hey Everyone,
I hope you don't mind if I pick your brains for a minute. I have a couple
of things I don't quite understand:

1. If I am operating with a public and private network (with Public and
Private DNS) how do I tell the computers on the internal network how to get
to the public info? Is there some type of NS record that I need to add?
(have I provided enough info or is there something else that would help
evaluate this situation?)

2. Is there a way to stop a DNS query attack? I can't shut down the
server, I can't block the traffic because there are too many IP addresses.
I can't block the protocol (obviously)...any ideas?

3. Do I need an MX record for zones that do not have their own email
server? (if they use my server instead...different zone)

4. Anybody ever heard of Negative Caching and care to enlighten me?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Philip
