Virtual domain setup question

I came across this old post and discovered I had most of my domains
setup incorrectly-see bottom of email ( or at least not optimally!)

What I was wondering when using this format

> virtual.domain. A <IP address of web server>
www.virtual.domain. CNAME virtual.domain.

On the webstar side, do I set up two virtual domains
one for
virtual.domain
and one for
www.virtual.domain

I want the webpage to resolve to either
www.virtual.domain or just virtual.domain

Also Should sub domains look like this

sub1.virtual.domain. CNAME virtual.domain.
sub2.virtual.domain. CNAME virtual.domain

etc

The on the web* side simply set up each virtual subdomian to point to
it's correct folder

FYI I am using Web* 4.4 with it's built in virtual hosting

Thanks

Continuing the ongoing learning curve of DNS and almost liking it.!
