QDNS and Crashing.. UPDATE

We are on to something here.. Details will follow in the coming days.
Many, many experiments. We have several sniffers, logging tools, and a
number of interesting systems in place (cannot say more)...

Anyway, as to our particular crashing problem (and I know we are not
alone), we may have found the root of the problem, and it is NOT Open
Transport, or any other app for that matter. Of this we are 95% certain
at this time. We have been slowly collecting a lot of data, and
conducting several experiments and believe we have just about found out
how to reproduce our crashes.

I am interested to know if there are any QDNS users out there that would
be willing to share in this experiment?

Here are the requirements:

1. You have a QDNS 3.01-3.5 server running
2. You let us crash it. (seriously).
3. Must be running on Mac OS (not OSX, though we may consider this as
well in the future).

Of course this can be done in a controlled environment, at a safe time
when DNS services are not critical, and of course, you should have more
than one DNS server. Also, I really do not care how heavily loaded it
is. It could be 1000 + domains, or one domain.. You could even use a
test server so as not to disturb your production servers. In any event,
we have found out what causes the crash, and how to do it. THIS IS NOT A
DOS ATTACK!!!

Any takers?

Once we are done with our little experiment, we will be happy to tell M&M
how we found out what the problem was, and how we can easily crash a QDNS
server. When I say crash, here is what will happen... Your server will
stop answering pings (barely that is..) the ping times will go up to
about 20000MS and higher, if a reply comes back at all.. Also, your box
will still be running. That is correct. Even though it looks dead, the
box will be running, the mouse will move, other apps will run, you will
be able to TB2 to the box, you can even open up a admin session with your
QDNS server. But QDNS will just hang. It will stop answering queries,
ie., just flat out cease to function. And in some cases, yep, the box
will just blow up. No damage will be caused of course, and no data will
be corrupted, but a reboot will be in order in some cases.

I know this sounds strange, but we have been working on this for months.
(no I have not been drinking, yet..)

Thoughts?
