The latest version is QuickDNS 3.5, which comes with QuickDNS Server
3.0.1r2.<br>

Why pre-3.5? QuickDNS 3.5 is available for Mac OS 8/9.</blockquote>
<div><br></div>
<div>Umm, because looking at your web site at the 3.5 download page,
Classic Mac OS is not listed as a supported platform for the second
component -- QuickDNS Remote. At least that's the impression I got
due to the page organization.
<http://www.menandmice.com/5000/5200_qui<span
></span>ck_dns.html></div>
<div><br></div>
<div><font face="Helvetica" color="#000000"><b>QuickDNS 3.5 is made
up of two components; a client called QuickDNS Manager and a
server-controller called DNS Remote.</b></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><br>
</font><font face="Verdana"
color="#669933"><b>Step 1:</b></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><br>
</font><font face="Helvetica" color="#005070"><u><x-tab>
</x-tab>Download QuickDNS Manager</u></font></div>
<div><font face="Helvetica" color="#FA0C63">The client, containing
the graphical user interface, runs on any of these operating systems:
Windows, Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X.</font><font face="Verdana"
color="#669933"><b><br>
Step 2:</b></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><x-tab> </x-tab><br>
</font><font face="Helvetica" color="#005070"><u>Download QuickDNS
Remote</u></font><font face="Helvetica" color="#FA0C63"><br>
The QuickDNS Remote runs with a currently installed BIND 8.2.3 on Red
Hat Linux 6.2, 7.0 and 7.1; SuSE Linux 6.3, 6.4 and 7.0; Solaris and
Mac OS X.</font><br>
<font face="Helvetica" color="#FA0C63"></font></div>
<div>So, from the above, I got the impression that I could run
Manager on Classic but not Remote (which I thought was the server
component). All the OSs listed are some flavor of Unix. I guess I
should have read further. And, of course, I now know that the product
consists of three components, not the stated two, at least on Classic
Mac OS.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>You might just state -- closer to the top of that web page --
that Classic Mac OS QuickDNS is an exception to the "Download
two separate components" paradigm. Having Classic Mac OS at the
tail end of Step Two -- it might as well have been invisible to me.
It certainly does not fit (logically) where it is.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Coming from v 2.2.1, I didn't really understand how the remote
admin works and how many components were involved. Not that that
would have made any difference, given that following the Step 1, Step
2 path stopped me short of downloading anything at all.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Try this: Where it says "Step 1:" (the first mention),
click the "Download QuickDNS Manager" link. It scrolls the
page to Step one where you are presented with two choices:</div>
<div><br></div>
<div><font face="Verdana"
color="#669933"><b>Step 1:</b></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><x-tab> </x-tab><br>
</font><font face="Helvetica" color="#000000"><b>QuickDNS
Manager</b></font><font face="Helvetica" color="#FA0C63"><br>
Here you download the client, containing the graphical user
interface.<br>
<br>
</font><font face="Helvetica" color="#005070"><u>Download QuickDNS
Manager for Windows</u></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><br>
<br>
</font><font face="Helvetica" color="#005070"><u>Download QuickDNS
Manager for Mac OS X</u></font><font face="Helvetica"
color="#FA0C63"><br>
<br>
For your evalution of QuickDNS, we provide two Linux test servers
running QuickDNS Remote.</font> ...</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Conspicuous by its absence is Classic Mac OS. (Incidentally,
"evaluation" is misspelled.) So who needs to proceed to
step two when step one is a dead end? Oh, sure, the reference above
*says* it will run on Mac OS 8/9, but it wouldn't be the first time
there was an error on a web page.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Anyway, thanks for the clarification. I will now proceed to
download and install 3.5. You might want to have a look at the web
page organization.</div>
