IP multihoming advice neededFrom: Gabriele Polidori Date: Wednesday, August 15, 2001
Time: 11:21:45 amHello :)
sorry for the crossposting, but I need answers from all the 3 lists.
This week I'm going to add some domains to my Mac servers, and I need
some suggestions.
I'm using 1 Performa 6400 (MacOS 9.1, QuickDNS 3, EIMS 3.0.3) and 1
8550/200 (Web* 4.4)
First of all, I don't understand if there are performance issues using
IP multihoming vs single IP for every domain.
What I'd like to do is to reserve single IP for important domains, while
grouping less important ones with multihoming.
I did understand that EIMS need the client to send the full domain to
connect to the right account, but are there any other important things
to take care, involving DNS or e-mail ?
Before I start moving domains from other servers, please give me any
suggestions that could help me in this task.
Also, what can be the right Mac for hosting about 100/110 domains (low
traffic about 4/5 Gb/month) ? now they're hosted on a very stable Cobalt
Raq III server (which is a very good machine, with a nice graphical web
interface for admin tasks).
Thank you,
Gabriele Polidori
NB: please reply privately as I'm on the digest!
