Re: Specifying ports with QDNSFrom: Jeff Folk Date: Saturday, August 18, 2001
Time: 4:32:14 pmRobert;
DNS, as far as I know, has no vehicle for specifying the port of the host.
The port has to be specified in the URL of the request. The well known ones
are just assumed for our benefit [http-80, ftp-21, dns-53, etc.]
If you bought internet service with the purpose of having servers available
on the internet, I would tell your ISP that this is grounds for non-payment
of your account. Maybe then they will spend more time getting those idiots
running IIS to fix their machines instead of blocking access. In my corner
of the internet I have only logged 856 attacks since 8/1/2001, and
counting...
Anti-flame note: By idiots, I don't mean ALL IIS users are idiots, just
those with systems that are easily compromised. ;-)
