My guess is they are signing up with an offer code, and it happens to be the first offer code in your list of offer codes (under Offer Codes Setup). There is a new option to auto-set master account based on offer code, and in the sample preferences, the first value is "dpoint". Since it's a new preference, the default value stays. Soooo... go to Maintenance & Preferences -> Offer Code Setup and remove that from the master account.
