some problems with qdns 3.5 (crashes, load balancing)

hello,

recently i did the upgrade from qdns 3.0 to 3.5. qdns server (3.0.1r2) and
the remote agent and the load balancer are running on 2 motorola starmax
adt4160 with 128mb ram and macos 9.1 with latest updates.

the primary qdns machine is crashing very often with error 1 or 2. qdns is
the only application on these computers (only autoboot and a retrospect are
running too).

the secondary crashes more seldom but sometime shortly after the primary.

crashes do not occur while backing up, so i think retrospect does not
interfere here. i think the macos is also clear.

i did some tests and found that increasing memory for the remote agent and
the load balancer increases the time until the next crash occurs. with the
standard memory settings crashess occur a few times a day, now i have
8192kbyte set and the primary is up for nearly two days now...

both machines were quite stable with qdns 3.0.

i would be glad to provide more information.

another question: i am doing load balancing for our webservers. one server
is set to 9 the other to 1 so i expected to see every 10th packet going to
the secondary webserver. the load balancer tools shows me only the primary
server. when i stop the primary server then i get all traffic to the
secondary, when i start the primary again, all traffic goes to it again.

i checked if all qdns programs are running on both servers, and they do.

bye,

Matthias Gruber
