Re: MSN MessengerFrom: Chris Parker Date: Monday, October 15, 2001
Time: 9:21:11 amBlocked ICQ, MSN and Yahoo the same way before the firewall
was config'd... (Can't find my notes at the moment - will check
when I have more time). What you can do, what I did, was to
install the programs on an insolated machine with it's own DNS
and see what lookups are done...

I got some great advice on this list on how to kill AIM by setting up DNS to
answer authoritatively for the messenger domain.
Does anybody know a similar way to kill off MSN messenger and Yahoo? (what
server name do those ask for?) And, are there any other popular ones?
(cute side note: a sixth grade student asked me why AIM didn't work, but
MSN did. Answer: Because I forgot about MSN :)
If nobody actually knows the address, how can I monitor a program like MSN
Messenger to see what it asks the dns server? (I suppose I can watch the
QDNS Log, but I'd like to know a way to 'sniff' it off my local machine.
