Re: Problem with Server getting a name

What does the EIMS server use for it's DNS server? If it queries your provider's server, it should return the reverse lookup correctly.

Are you running the EIMS server on the same box as the QDNS server?

Also, you can do the reverse DNS for a classless network, the provider has to make some entries that will delegate the reverse DNS for those addresses to your server. There is an RFC you can reference (2317) which describes one method of delegating reverse DNS.

I am in a similar situation. I have a block of 32 addresses and my provider delegates the reverse to my own server.
I have EIMS 3.0.3 running on the same box as QDNS. I have the startup items named so that QDNS starts before EIMS and the dns server setting is "127.0.0.1".

Even if EIMS can't find it's name, it will assume the default, or remember what it was last. What is important other nodes can resolve the name of your mail server from the address.

Hope this helps.
