email manager

Ok, what am I doing wrong. I can't get the e-mail manager to check any
e-mail? I have tried the host name and the IP for the mail server and
nothing is working. Can't even see it poping the mail server when I tell
it to check, so it's not even trying. What am I doing wrong? I have
checked all over the prefs and can't see where I have screwed up. Maybe I
just need some sleep :-) We run qmail on BSD if that helps.
