-- exactly. It seems that with QDNS 2, there is no requirement to have a name, but with QDNS 3+, there is.

-- I shouldn't have called the guy a hostmaster; he is the local department master of a former AppleTalk domain that now needs to provide MX records for his department for outbound mail.

-- He wants to operate a gateway SMTP server to do this, as he has in the past, and not have to ask or depend on the central corporate DNS masters. So there are other issues, and other possible solutions.

-- but the general topic, providing DNS for internal LANs, and monitoring them going forward, is still an extremely important matter for small businesses as well as large ones, and therefore very important for Men & Mice.

-- thanks, it's good to know that people have figured it out, as expected. I'll work with the Aerovironment guy and try to get him fixed, hooked up with Chris, on the list, or all of the above.

-- wrt MW NYC, I am getting very good vibes about a revival of Mac OS [X] Internet servers and services, providers, early adopters, consultants, and customers in general.

-- I'll be working as possible to help fire up presence and participation then and there, now that we finally have an open road ahead of us. With a little luck, the hardware and software will continue to improve through July, and that could be the real debut of the next wave for our kind of people!
