Re: Aliases and ''slave'' DNS set-ups

Simon,

if the ISP won't release control of the domain to you, simply have them
create the address records for the clients www server... and for that matter
the rest of the alias entries as well. You aren't authoritative for the
clients domain so why bother doing anything?

Essentially if you have to setup the domain on your dns, and then the ISP
simply looks to your server for updates, it means extra work for you. Sure
you'd feel like you were doing a service for your client but you really
aren't in control of things.

The client has the say over their domain... either have them move the domain
to your control or leave the dns to the ISP.

On your side there isn't a requirement at all for you to run dns for the
client... as long as the ISP has the www address record pointing to the IP
address of your server that hosts the client site (as well as all of the
aliases), all will work. I see that you are using FireSite so you simply
have to make sure that the dns record is setup before you try and create the
site within FireSite.
